The Characters of Worn Soles

Larry Mitchell ...Guide, explorer, student, pilgrim, warrior poet, storyteller, listener...over twenty-five years of sharing life with people in formal and informal settings as a pastor, college professor, high school coach, garbageman, photographer, youth counsellor and friend. Strong emphasis on working with youth worldwide, equipping and inspiring teens and young adults to experience life and the Kingdom of God more fully. Larry currently teaches a variety of subjects from religion to film-making with a high-school co-op in Indianapolis where he is also part of a faith community/church start-up in the downtown core. He is the co-founder of WornSoles, a pilgrimage-focused team visioned to enable spiritual formation through urban and wilderness adventure. But bottom line is that he has an incredible amount of fun journeying with his wife Kelly and his kids Laura, David (son-in-law), Aram and step-kids Chloe and Colin.

Aram Mitchell -- i am... son of laurence and janet, brother of laura (who married david), friend of many, an aspiring jesus follower, hopeful, embracing (trying to) life to the full - with all of its laughter and grit, a lover of stories that stir the heart and nourish the soul. i want to be a cowboy, a dogsledder, a pirate, and a shepherd when i grow up, but meanwhile i find solace in simply, by God's grace, being.

David Zigler..I'm a skinny white kid who has found himself married to a beautifully courageous woman named Laura...and together we have been richly blessed by God and so many cool, mysterious, wonderful people so that we may bless others into the Christ's Kingdom of Full Life (john 10:10)...
I have been involved with crafting formal and informal settings of spiritual formation over the past six years. Sometimes i find myself teaching history or film-making classes for Village Classes (www.villageclasses.com), helping pastor/ shepherd a church-start-up in downtown Indianapolis (www.indytrinity.com), guiding Toronto pilgrimage trips with Larry (and other characters), philosphizing about God, the Church, and the nature of life. Most of all i enjoy spending time (whether that's traveling to Nova Scotia, hiking the Paria, playing cards, viewing films, or eating tons of food while watching football) with the people i love most in this world...

Introductions

++ Pilgrim..breathing in Life deep enough to truly sense, feel and Weep, knowing that it may hurt yet will satisfy the soul
++ Pilgrim..embracing challenge, risk, and unknown adventure...accepting Invitation to epic, zeal, dynamic doubt, invading grace
++ Pilgrim..battling the seduction of settling into the safety of building barriers, boundaries, borders

Pilgrimage: A gathering of pilgrims sharing life together in an intense, intentional time of cultural exploring and experiencing...

In a time when we are spending too much money and too many resources strategizing how God can and should work through our churches, perhaps He is wanting our focus to be much more on how He works through us in the world outside of our churches...how we live Church in the Story of everyday existence..how we intentionally live our lives as pilgrims in the art galleries, the schools, the sidewalks, the pubs, the cafes, the parks, the shops, the ghettos, the suburbs, the playgrounds, the offices...
